CCI Health Services to Host Fifth Annual Run Baby Run 5K
The race aims to build awareness and raise money to support the organization’s prenatal care services for underserved moms-to-be in Prince George’s County.
SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND, AUG 4, 2022 – CCI Health Services, one of the largest community health centers in Maryland, will host their fifth annual Run Baby Run 5K/Walk for Healthier Moms and Babies.
Run Baby Run will occur on October 1, 2022, at Wheaton Regional Park, 2000 Shorefield Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20902.
Warmups begin at 7:30 AM, with the race starting promptly at 8:00 AM.
The event is open to everyone, no matter their skill level or ability.
Run Baby Run serves as CCI’s largest fundraising event of the year to support its prenatal program. The event brings awareness to the challenges and inequities that pregnant women face when accessing quality health care within the community. Quality prenatal care changes the trajectory of patients’ birth outcomes, leading to healthy, full-term babies.
Women facing chronic health conditions, such as hypertension or diabetes, require a higher level of care when pregnant.
Women born outside of the United States may have limited English proficiency and need care adapted to their linguistic and cultural needs.
Black women specifically are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than non-Hispanic White women.
Prince George’s County has some of the worst birth outcomes in Maryland. They do not offer prenatal care services to residents. This makes it more difficult for underserved women to achieve healthy birth outcomes. CCI is working to change the inequities surrounding prenatal care in the county. In 2021, the organization delivered care to 542 expecting mothers.
A celebration in honor of CCI’s 50th anniversary will begin immediately following the race, complete with family-friendly activities, music, and fun. CCI aims to fundraise $50,000 through the event.
