SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND, SEPTEMBER 3, 2024 – CCI Health Services (CCI), one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in Maryland, announced today that they have been recognized as a National Quality Leader (NQL) in HIV Prevention and Care by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) for the second consecutive year. CCI was one of only 11 community health centers nationwide to receive the recognition.  

“It’s a great honor to receive the National Quality Leader recognition from HRSA for a second time in a row, denoting our efforts to provide a premiere health care experience for our patients with HIV and do our part to end the HIV epidemic,” said Dr. Sonya Bruton, CCI’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President.  

HIV/AIDS and infectious disease care and management is a component of CCI’s comprehensive health services model. The community health center takes a proactive approach to ending the HIV epidemic by providing resources, education, and relevant health services to community members. 

In 2023, CCI completed 8,118 HIV screenings, a 53% increase compared to the prior year. HIV screenings are embedded in the organization’s primary care approach to reduce stigma and increase testing. CCI also provides screenings at events throughout Montgomery and Prince George’s counties; the organization recently completed 51 rapid tests commemorating National HIV Testing Day on June 27. 

In 2024, CCI became the first health center in Montgomery County to offer same-day access to PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), an oral medicine taken daily to prevent HIV exposure. The organization provides PrEP free of charge to all who need it. The organization also offers Tele-PrEP, which allows patients to complete their first appointment for PrEP via telemedicine.
