SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND, JUNE 5, 2023 – CCI Health Services (CCI) announced today that they have received a $30,000 grant from the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) to increase transportation access for disabled and senior residents living on limited incomes. The grant was awarded through the Target and Specialized Mobility (TSM) Operating Grant Program and will support operating costs associated with increasing access.
“Small community-based nonprofits have the potential to significantly increase transportation options for disabled individuals, seniors and low-income residents,” said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin. “By prioritizing funding toward these organizations, MCDOT can ensure that a broad spectrum of community needs is met and that transportation barriers are removed.”
Transportation access is a strategic priority for CCI. In 2022, the organization received a grant from the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) to schedule Uber rides for patients and participants with transportation barriers. The limited-time program was a success and renewed for another year in 2023. As a result, Uber rides continue to be available for eligible patients and participants.
For over five decades, CCI has served as one of the largest community health centers in Montgomery and neighboring Prince George’s counties. In 2022, over 64,000 patients and participants visited one of the organization’s seven health and four Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) centers.
