SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND, OCTOBER 24, 2023 – CCI Health Services (CCI) announced today the hiring of Wilfredo Giordano-Perez, MD, MBA, as Chief Medical Officer (CMO), effective October 17.

Dr. Giordano-Perez has worked in Federally Qualified Health Centers for ten years, leading senior teams in primary care practice transformation, expanding access to HIV treatment and prevention, LGBTQIA+ care, sexual and gender minority health, and the treatment of substance use disorders.

He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a regular guest lecturer for the Brown University School of Public Health. A remarkable physician and global health leader, he has dedicated his career to improving the health of historically underserved communities around the world.

“Dr. Giordano-Perez brings to our team savvy medical leadership, a conduit for strategic growth, and enduring commitment to health equity. I know that he will take our already robust medical program to new heights and accelerate our ability to fill care gaps within our service area,” said Dr. Sonya Bruton, Chief Executive Officer and President of CCI.

Dr. Giordano-Perez began his career in Haiti as the Public Health Director for an orphanage of 600 children. There, he helped grow one of the country’s largest public health training programs, developing over a dozen initiatives focused on sanitation, nutrition, and water quality to reduce the incidence of HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria. His work earned him recognition with a 2010 VH1 Do Something Award for his humanitarian efforts.

After his return from Haiti, Dr. Giordano-Perez pursued his medical degree at Brown University with a focus on global health. He continued to work as a public health development consultant for several global health organizations, including most recently the Laotian Ministry of Health, to advance efforts in building a nutrition institute to address the country’s high rates of childhood stunting.

Dr. Giordano-Perez’s expertise and leadership extend to the field of sexual and gender minority health, where he is a recognized expert in LGBTQIA+ care. He has won several local and national teaching awards for his work as a clinical professor at Brown University, where he trains medical students and residents in the care of LGBTQIA+ patients.

In Rhode Island, where he was the CMO for the Tri-County Health Centers, he designed the state’s first and only free same-day PrEP program for the prevention of HIV. He was also awarded the Providence Business News 40 Under Forty and the NACHC Geiger-Gibson Emerging Leader Awards for his efforts in integrating medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorders and HIV and Hepatitis C treatment into primary care, expanding access to thousands of patients.
