Refugee Health Services

CCI works with the Maryland Department of Health to provide health assessments to newly arrived refugees, asylees, and those with special immigrant visas (SIVs) resettling in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. We also accept referrals from the International Rescue Committee and Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area. Our refugee health patients come from all over the world. Many arrive from Cameroon, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Ethiopia, and Guatemala.

About Refugee Health Services at CCI

CCI commits to providing you with the care that makes you feel comfortable and in your language of choice. You don’t have to speak English to receive services. At CCI, we take the time to get to know you, your experiences, and your journey, so we can provide the best possible care. We will address your health needs and connect you to community resources to support you as you adjust to life in your new community.

We schedule refugee health visits at two locations, Silver Spring and Greenway. Two (2) appointments are scheduled for refugee health visits. The first to determine your needs and a follow-up visit one week later.

What to expect from your visit:

During the first visit, a member of the care team conducts bloodwork and screenings for conditions, such as behavioral health, diabetes, and parasitic diseases. You also receive information on how to obtain health insurance, where to buy groceries, how to use public transportation, and where to fill a prescription. The first appointment is also an opportunity for us to check with you about how you are adjusting to living in a different country, and to refer you to other health services you may need, such as prenatal care and dental.
