September 15 to October 15 marks National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich cultures, storied histories, and many meaningful contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.
The Hispanic and Latino populations are the foundation of our community, making up 20% of Montgomery County residents and nearly 19% of Prince George’s County residents. More than half of CCI’s patients are Latino, many of whom were born outside of the U.S. In fact, we are often one of the first to welcome newly arrived families to the community, a point of pride for our entire team.
And did you know that the majority of CCI’s staff is Latino, as well? Their initiative in our Support Center helps keep our programs thriving, and their knowledge in our health centers keeps our patients healthy. CCI’s staff is as diverse as the community we serve—a strength that allows us to build enduring trust with our neighbors.
Latino and Hispanic Americans do much for our patients and the wider community, but they’re more than just their contributions. They’re leaders and supporters, artists and intellectuals, friends and mentors. Their compassion knows no bounds, and their commitment to their neighbors makes our society stronger and brighter. Their stories of resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges never cease to amaze or move those who hear them.
We are grateful for our Latino and Hispanic patients, colleagues, neighbors, friends, and family. We thank you for being who you are. You’ll always have a friend and advocate in CCI.
Every person in our community deserves quality, affordable health care. Unfortunately, BIPOC Americans face many challenges in receiving care. Learn more about health inequity, why it matters, and what CCI is doing to end it (and how you can help us!)
